The Morgan Arts Council held their annual fundraiser,
Art & Elegance 2015 on November 7th 2015.
The 7th of November, two thousand fifteen saw the unassuming Ice House transformed into the resplendent “CaponCabana.”
Remember the soft but intense throb of Barry Manilow’s 1970’s hit “Copacabana”? The song was based on the 1940’s nightclub phenomenon by the same name: “the Copa … Copacabana .. .the hottest spot north of Havana.” And that it was. A pre-WWII icon that debuted the likes of Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis, Peggy Lee, Frank Sinatra, Bobby Darin and Ella Fitzgerald. It was THE place to see and be seen.

Now, 75 years later, Art & Elegance commandeered the Big Band Sound, taking to the floor with the Swing, Rumba and Jitterbug, and dressing to the nines “where music and passion were always the fashion.” New York City’s vintage “Copa” was re-imagined as Berkeley Springs’ “CaponCabana.” We might be missing the chorus girls and the flamboyance of Carmen Miranda, but the cadence of the nightclub will pulse.
And yes, the Tombola returned. As in the past, a selection of nearly one hundred funky and fabulous art pieces and fun and fantastic Experience Prizes were donated by artists and merchants … one for each ticket sold. View the 2015 Tombola Catalogue.
If you’re an artist and would like to donate for next year, please contact us. Amidst music, some high-flying cuisine, and chit-chat with like-minded enthusiasts, you’ll support the many faces and multiple disciplines of MAC. (Who really needs those chorus girls, anyway?)
For all your support and contributions – Thank you all, so very much!
