2015 GRAND PRIZE
MT. ROYAL ROCKER by GAT CREEK
with
TOPPER QUILT by JANE FRENKE
In 1896, when train travel was a core element of American life, the B&O Railroad opened its new “uptown” station in Baltimore. Designed by renowned architects Baldwin & Pennington, the Mt. Royal Station serviced passengers traveling the famous B&O Belt Line. It featured grandiose ceilings, both “general” and “ladies” waiting rooms, a restaurant and several comfortable rocking chairs. The Mt. Royal Rocker is a careful reproduction of these popular chairs made under license of the B&O Railroad Museum.
This gorgeous piece of furniture is handsomely paired with a one of a kind, handmade Cotton Batik, Machine Pieced and Quilted Topper Quilt by Berkeley Springs Artisan Jane Frenke. The quilt measures a generous 65 x 65 inches, and makes a brilliant and unique companion for the Rocker. The quilt was produced in Jane’s Fiesta Fibers studio, where she weaves, quilts and creates stunning custom-dyed fabrics.
Package Value: $1850
