“Gaia Sophia”
Divine Feminine Earth Wisdom

Necklace and Earrings – Pearls with Raspberry Rhodolite Garnets and 14kt yellow gold beads and clasp.

Ruby belongs to the Corundum family of stones, which also includes sapphires and is the hardest mineral after diamonds with a Mohs’ hardness of 9.

Ruby is July the birthstone and the 40th anniversary stone. Pearl is the birthstone for June and 30th anniversary stone.

GAIA, as Mother Nature, personifies the entire ecosystem of Planet Earth. Mother Nature is always working to achieve and maintain harmony, wholeness and balance within the environment.

SOPHIA – Wisdom, the feminine Heart and Soul of the Earth

The pendant shape is reminiscent of Earth Mother Goddess figures from ancient cultures.

Folklore: Ruby has long been associated with Mars, royalty, power, strength, healing, love and protection. Rulers wore rubies to enhance their wisdom when faced with crucial decisions. In the Wizard of Oz, ruby slippers protected Dorothy from evil forces. Ruby was believed to bestow harmony, success, emotional balance and contentment to its wearer. Was said to be in the breastplate of the high priest. Buddhists consider it a sacred stone and refer to it as “tears of Buddha.”

New Age: Ruby is associated with the first or root chakra and grounding to the Earth. Ruby is said to stimulate the first chakra, improve circulation, and enhance life force and vitality. Can energize physical, mental and emotional bodies and is a cleansing vibration for the blood. Ruby is also associated with the heart and healing self-love.

Pearl is associated with Venus, the Moon, water and as a symbol of femininity, helping women connect with their “inner goddesses”. Associated with forgiveness, creativity, intuition, purity and advancing states of wisdom.

Abigail Porter Jewelry

Contemporary and Classic combined with fine craftsmanship – that’s jewelry designed and made by Abigail Porter. Inspired by Nature, Abby’s jewelry is comfortable, sensual, and always in style.

“My work is about proportion and color, Nature and the healing quality of stones. I have always been entranced by the great variety of stones and their luscious colors. I feel that we are intuitively attracted to the stones and colors that are beneficial for us. We need to respond to our intuition and reconnect personally with Nature and our Earth.”

Abigail’s interest in making jewelry was sparked in 1972 by her first silversmithing class at Instituto Allende in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. She went on to get a B.F.A at Philadelphia College of Art (now University of the Arts) in 1976. She continued advanced studies at Revere Academy of Goldsmithing in San Francisco and took classes in the ancient technique of 22kt gold granulation at Jewelry Arts in New York City.

Abigail was born on Cape Cod during an Atlantic Ocean hurricane and was raised amid the gently rolling hills of rural Northeast Pennsylvania, on a biodynamic farm (dairy goats and cows). Her jewelry design sources: the movement of water, animals, and plant life, swirls and waves, jumps and stretches, sprouts and blossoms. She also incorporates stylized motifs from ancient cultures that reflect the unseen forces of Nature.
